USFA Announces the National Open Circuit

On September 22nd, 2008, the newly-installed USFA Board of Directors voted to establish a new National Open Circuit using well-known, locally organized Senior events and modeled after the SYC system. In the future, a well established bid-process will be used for event designation.

The goal of the NOC is to expand the reliable strength of large super-regional events below the Div I NAC level. It will serve as a developmental path for athletes and intends to provide level-appropriate competitions for the Div IA fencer, historically underserved by the national tournament structure.

Top 4 places in each of the Super-Regional Events will auto-qualify for Div IA Summer Nationals. A season-long points standing will be maintained for the National Open Circuit with awards given to the top place holders in each weapon.

A NOC Task Group was appointed to select the first season's events, oversee the management of the first season, and establish guidelines for the selection of events and management of future seasons. The NOC Task Group can be contacted via usfanocmanagement@gmail.com.
